The GIHSN Annual Meeting 2026 took place from 17 to 19 June at the Château de Crécy-la-Chapelle, France. Organized by the Foundation for Influenza Epidemiology in collaboration with WHO, the meeting brought together over 60 participants from 35 countries, including site investigators, international experts, and public health decision-makers.
Key discussions focused on:
- The evolving global health architecture and surveillance ecosystem;
- The added value of innovative and agile data intelligence networks such as GIHSN, complementing traditional virological surveillance systems;
- A GIHSN European extension aimed at exploring the drivers of vaccine protection, to be launched in the upcoming season;
- The growing role of artificial intelligence and its potential contribution to informing vaccine strain selection.
We extend our sincere thanks to all participating sites for their continued commitment and collaboration. Beyond a data collection platform, GIHSN is a vibrant scientific community built on trust, shared expertise, and a common commitment to improving the prevention and control of respiratory viruses worldwide.
